What a June it was!

What a wonderful pride event filled with love and light. (We had plenty of light and needed to reapply sunscreen several times. Thank you so much for dealing with the sometimes long wait to come through and show your pride. While we plan to go back to our regular parade and festival next year it’s important for your voices to be heard. Let us know what you liked and what could have been better. If you have any comments please send them to contact@hawaiiislandpride.org so we can consider them during our next meeting on July 13th. If you’d like to be more involved with planning next years pride or helping out with our next event please go to our members page and scroll down for information about our meetings.

Art for a Good Cause

No. Not that kind of shots!

PRIDE is Proud to be able to offer one of the most essential services of 2021: a Vaccination Station at Drive Thru Pride.

No, the serum won’t be rainbow colored, but participants will have a choice between one dose Johnson & Johnson or the 2 dose Moderna vaccine.

This service is provided by Bay Clinic, long time collaborators with Hawaii Island LGBTQ Pride.

When you drive through, just let them know your interest in being vaccinated. When you are finished with the festival, you can park at reserved parking on Aupuni Street and we’ll guide you through the process from there.

We are not in charge of staffing, so no guarantee which attractive nurses will be there that day. But they will be nurses that care about YOU, and our community.

If you have any questions about Covid 19 vaccination please contact us through our website or Instagram.

Drive Thru Pride is Hawai’i Island LGBTQ Pride’s response to our current safety protocols. Our guests will be in cars. Our volunteers will be in masks. And everyone will be able to enjoy gathering together in a joyous, colorful way.

Our Drive Thru participants will have a chance to: order a variety of great food from our local vendors, get grab bags of goodies for adults and keiki, get free drinks, buy Pride T-shirts, take pics of gorgeous drag queens AND win prizes.

Participants will be encouraged to “Pride Your Ride”, (decorate their vehicle), making THEM the PARADE. Pictures will be taken of the dressed up vehicles, and prizes will be awarded to the finest.

We will also be taking pictures of those with decorated masks, and awarded prizes.

Local businesses and social service organizations will be represented.

Logistics: Participants will be encouraged to enter Aupuni Street from Kīlauea, (the Just Cruisin’ Coffee corner), and proceed makai to the Government Center. Volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic and answer questions.

This is a Drive Thru ONLY event. Only volunteers will be allowed to be on foot.

Theme: Rise & Pride

This year, the board wanted to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter and Transgender Rights movements. For too long we have lost many American lives due to acts of hate and systemic racism. In the last year we have seen many stand up for their own rights AND the rights of others. We want to continue to encourage our community to Proudly Rise Up for Fairness, Justice and Equality for ALL.
